Peter Senge is one of the rare individuals who is held in very high regard by both practitioners and academics.  His ideas have both a depth and relevance that merit a significant investment of time and attention. 

Education and Building Momentum

One of the reasons for bringing Dr. Senge to Nashville was to provide education about current developments with organizational learning initiatives across a variety of organizations (educational, nonprofit, government and business organizations).  In addition, it was a great opportunity to hear from the person who popularized the concept of the learning organization and his address sparked and re-ignited our enthusiasm for implementing constructive, learning-oriented practices. 

Relationship and Community Building

One of the most important benefits we saw accruing from this visit was the opportunity to build relationships and community across different organizations that share interests and serve the community in various ways.  The benefits take many forms, including: opening up continuing dialogue on important issues, additional collaborations (e.g. speaker series or series of workshops),  sharing of best practices and resources, meaningful friendships and social support, and communities of practice.
